Toni Goffe, local artist and Chairman of The Hampshire Artists Co-Operative has discovered that his wasps have an artistic bent.
He had been putting out nest boxes in his Alton garden for years and every year they have been ignored by the birds.
This year he decided to try one more time before he finally gave up. As usual the birds ignored his new three-bedroom nest box but some wasps took an interest and moved in.
“I decided to let them stay and not destroy the nest, they weren’t bothering us and we decided not to bother them,” said Toni.
To show their appreciation the wasps began a portrait of their benefactor as shown in the photograph.
“ I thought I might enter it in our next show at The Selborne Gallery but the other artists thought it might deter our customers rather than encourage them, so I went with the majority vote.
